Album:
Song meaning of You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman
Producer Jerry Wexler asked Carole King and her husband/co-writer Gerry Goffin to write "Natural Woman" expressly for Aretha Franklin in 1967, not long after "Respect" and "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" made her a star. After their children had gone to bed, it was put together in their suburban New Jersey home over a short period of time.
“Hearing [Aretha sing it] for the first time, I experienced a rare speechless moment,” King wrote in her 2012 memoir Natural Woman. “To this day I can’t convey how I felt in mere words.… It touched me more than any recording of any song I had ever written.
Aretha Franklin, an American soul singer, recorded the song "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" in 1967. It became one of her signature songs and was a tremendous smash, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. It ultimately became a smash almost 51 years after it was first released, arriving at #79, and made history in the UK singles chart a week after her passing. Additionally, Franklin featured a live recording on the 1968 album Aretha in Paris.
The song was created by Carole King herself for her 1971 album Tapestry. Mary J. Blige and Celine Dion have both recorded versions of the song.
