Song Meaning of Swan Song by Dua Lipa

In 2018, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez reached out to Dua Lipa regarding a possible songwriting opportunity for their upcoming movie Alita: Battle Angel. She agreed since she was enamoured with Alita, the movie's lead character, and wanted to be in it. The film crew saw Lipa's music video for "New Rules" and decided she would be a great fit for Alita: Battle Angel. They felt that she captured Alita's "kick-ass strength, power, and attitude" in the movie with her performance. Before Lipa started working on the song, she was shown the trailer and synopsis for the movie.

Along with Justin Tranter, Kennedi Lykken, Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, and Tom Holkenborg, Lipa co-wrote "Swan Song". Writing a song she already had an idea for and experimenting with sounds unrelated to what she was working on for her album excited the vocalist. Holkenborg wrote the movie's soundtrack, and the song's writers chose to incorporate his orchestrations into the song.

The song peaked at number 24 on the UK Singles Chart in terms of sales. In Poland, the song received a gold certification, while in the UK it received a silver one.
