Song Meaning of Sugar Sugar by The Archies
It was first released by the Archies, a made-up studio band associated with the Archie Comics' 1968–1969 Saturday morning TV series The Archie Show in the United States.
Jeff Barry, who at the time had children who were 3 and 4 years old, claimed that he and Andy Kim wrote this song with preschoolers in mind because they watched the Archie TV series. The phrase "You are my candy girl" was created as a result of their consideration of what children their age enjoy mainly candy!).
They inserted a phrase with considerable weight because they wanted the song to be appealing to adults as well: "I just can't believe the loveliness of loving you."
The most popular bubblegum pop single of all time is "Sugar, Sugar"
The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in the autumn of 1969 and the UK Singles Chart finishing the year at number one in both countries.
Sugar Sugar lyrics by The Archies
Sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you
Honey, ah sugar sugar
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you
I just can't believe the loveliness of loving you
(I just can't believe it's true)
I just can't believe the one to love this feeling to
(I just can't believe it's true)
Ah sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you
Ah honey, ah sugar sugar
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you
When I kissed you, girl, I knew how sweet a kiss could be
(I know how sweet a kiss can be)
Like the summer sunshine pour your sweetness over me
(Pour your sweetness over me)
Sugar, pour a little sugar on it honey
Pour a little sugar on it baby
I'm gonna make your life so sweet, yeah yeah yeah
Pour a little sugar on it oh yeah
Pour a little sugar on it honey
Pour a little sugar on it baby
I'm gonna make your life so sweet, yeah yeah yeah
Pour a little sugar on it honey
Ah sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you
Oh honey, honey, sugar sugar...
You are my candy girl...
