The song's lyrics honour the memory of a loved one who has subsequently passed away. Critics had mixed feelings about the song; some praised its production while others thought it was "sweet". Spin magazine named it one of the worst songs of 2019.

Adam Levine, the lead singer of the group, clarified, saying, "This song is for everybody who has ever experienced loss. Put differently, this song is dedicated to all of us." The song is inspired by the passing of Jordan Feldstein, a friend of Levine and the band's manager, who passed away in 2017.
