Song Meaning of I Cant Get No Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones, and what it is about

While the Rolling Stones were on their third U.S. tour in May 1965, Keith Richards had a dream that contained the riff. He was in his motel room in Clearwater, Florida. He got out of bed and gathered a guitar and a tape player.

After completing the series of notes, Richards slept off once more. "On the tape," he later remarked, "you can hear me drop the pick, and the rest is snoring."

Later, Jagger referred to "Satisfaction" as "my view of the world, my frustration with everything." By the motel pool the day after Richards' dream, Jagger penned the lyrics in 10 minutes, expressing his displeasure with "America, its advertising syndrome, the constant barrage" and being inspired by that riff and the title line, both of which were Richards' ideas.

The success of "Satisfaction" allowed the Rolling Stones to reach their first US number one. Because the song's lyrics were deemed to be too sexually provocative, the song was first exclusively broadcast on pirate radio stations in the UK. Later, it became the Rolling Stones' fourth UK number-one single.

Jagger commented on the song's appeal:

It was the song that really made the Rolling Stones, changed us from just another band into a huge, monster band ... It has a very catchy title. It has a very catchy guitar riff. It has a great guitar sound, which was original at that time. And it captures a spirit of the times, which is very important in those kinds of songs ... Which was alienation.

I Cant Get No Satisfaction lyrics by The Rolling Stones

I can't get no satisfaction

I can't get no satisfaction

'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try

I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm drivin' in my car

And the man comes on the radio

He's tellin' me more and more

About some useless information

Supposed to fire my imagination

I can't get no

Oh no no no

Hey hey hey

That's what I say

I can't get no satisfaction

I can't get no satisfaction

'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try

I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm watchin' my TV

And a man comes on and tells me

How white my shirts can be

But he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke

The same cigarettes as me

I can't get no

Oh no no no

Hey hey hey

That's what I say

I can't get no satisfaction

I can't get no girl reaction

'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try

I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm ridin' round the world

And I'm doin' this and I'm signin' that

And I'm tryin' to make some girl

Who tells me baby better come back maybe next week

Can't you see I'm on a losing streak

I can't get no

Oh no no no

Hey hey hey

That's what I say

I can't get no, I can't get no

I can't get no satisfaction

No satisfaction, no satisfaction

No satisfaction, I can't get no
