Song Meaning of Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys, and what it is about
“This is a very spiritual song,” Brian Wilson said “and I want it to give off good vibrations.”
Wilson was still working on his long-playing magnum opus, Pet Sounds, when he started “Good Vibrations” late in 1966, in Los Angeles. During the next seven months, in four studios, at a huge cost, the most expensive single recorded at the time, Wilson built “Good Vibrations” in sections, coloring the mood swings.
“We didn’t think about doing it in pieces at first,” Wilson said later, “but after the first few bars in the first verse, we realized that this was going to be a different kind of record.”
The title of Wilson's production, which was inspired by his interest in cosmic vibrations—his mother used to tell him as a child that dogs would occasionally growl at people because of their "bad vibrations"—is a reference to this. In his use of the idea, he attempted to imply extrasensory experience, and the lyrics to Love were influenced by the burgeoning Flower Power movement.
Engineer Chuck Britz said that Wilson considered this track to be "his whole life performance in one track".
Song Lyrics of Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys
[I-I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations (Oom-bop-bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, bop-bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, bop-bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations)
Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations (Oom-bop-bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, bop-bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, bop-bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations)
(Ah)
(Ah, my-my, what elation)
I don't know where but she sends me there
(Oh, my-my, what a sensation)
(Oh, my-my, what elation)
(Oh, my-my, what)
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin'
(Ah)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom-bop-bop)
(I'm pickin' up good vibrations, good vibrations bop-bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, bop-bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations
Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah
Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah (Bah-dah-dah, duh-dah, dah)
Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah (Bah-dah dah, duh-dah, dah)
Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah (Bah-dah-dah, duh-dah, dah)
