Song meaning of Budapest by George Ezra

"Budapest" was Ezra's first effort at writing a love song, and it features the first three guitar chords he ever learnt, he revealed to The Daily Telegraph. That simplicity has a lot of merits." According to Ezra, he had never even gone to Budapest and the song "Budapest" has nothing to do with the city in Hungary, despite its title.

He said, "I was in Malmo in Sweden and the Eurovision Song Contest was being held in Malmö on that night, and I didn't have a clue about it but everyone there seemed to be really excited about it and having parties. But I didn't know you couldn't buy alcohol after 10 o'clock at night. So I ended up buying a bottle of like, rum, or something like that from a guy in a park so I could have something to drink at this party. Anyway, I was meant to be getting a train to Budapest the next day, and I never got it because I was too hungover and didn't fancy it. So I wrote the song about being miles from Budapest."

The UK Singles Chart saw the song peak at number three. "Budapest" has also been a huge hit for Ezra in Slovenia, Austria, and New Zealand, where it has reached the top ten in eleven other nations and topped the charts in all three.

Lyrics of Budapest by George Ezra

My house in Budapest

My, my hidden treasure chest

Golden grand piano

My beautiful Castillo

You

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd leave it all

My acres of a land

That I've achieved

It may be hard for you to

Stop and believe

But for you

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd leave it all

Oh, for you

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd leave it all

And give me one good reason

Why I should never make a change

And baby if you hold me

Then all of this will go away

My many artifacts

The list goes on

If you just say the words

I'll, I'll up and run

Oh, to you

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd leave it all

Oh, for you

Ooh, oh

Ooh, I'd leave it all

And give me one good reason

Why I should never make a change

Baby if you hold me

Then all of this will go away

Give me one good reason

Why I should never make a change

And baby if you hold me

Then all of this will go away

A-ooh, a-ooh

My friends and family

They don't understand

They fear they'll lose so much

If you take my hand

But, for you

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd lose it all

Oh, for you

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd lose it all

And give me one good reason

Why I should never make a change

And baby if you hold me

Then all of this will go away

Give me one good reason

Why I should never make a change

And baby if you hold me

Then all of this will go away

My house in Budapest

My, my hidden treasure chest

Golden grand piano

My beautiful Castillo

You

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd leave it all

Oh, for you

Ooh, you

Ooh, I'd leave it all
