Song meaning of Another One Bites The Dust by Queen and what it is about
The song, which was written by bassist John Deacon, was included on the ensemble's eighth studio album, The Game (1980). It was a global smash that spent three weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song, acknowledged as Queen's best-selling single with sales of over 7 million copies, spent 15 weeks in the Billboard top 10, making it the longest-running top ten hit of 1980.
The disco song "Good Times" by Chic served as the model for John Deacon's bass line. Bernard Edwards, Chic's co-founder, said in an NME interview that "that Queen record came about because that Queen bass player... spent some time hanging out with us at our studio."
Michael Jackson proposed to Freddie Mercury that "Another One Bites the Dust" be made available as a single.
To "bite the dust" is to pass away or come up short in a match or competition. "Machine guns ready to go" and other elements of a mobster movie atmosphere are introduced in the first line. A failing relationship is described as "another one bites the dust" in later songs. The singer is "standing on my own two feet" and won't allow anything to bring him down.
The song appeared in an early cut of Rocky III before "Eye of the Tiger" from Survivor took its place.
Another One Bites The Dust lyrics by Queen
Oh! Let's go!
Steve walks warily down the street
With the brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet
Machine guns ready to go
Are you ready? Hey, are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat, yeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust, yeah
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
How do you think I'm gonna get along
Without you when you're gone?
You took me for everything that I had
And kicked me out on my own
Are you happy, are you satisfied?
How long can you stand the heat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat
Look out!
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
Hey!
Oh, take it
Bite the dust
Bite the dust, yeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust, ow
Another one bites the dust, hey hey
Another one bites the dust, hey-eh-eh
Shout!
There are plenty of ways that you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him, you can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him when he's down, yeah
But I'm ready, yes, I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
Repeating to the sound of the beat
Oh, yeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust, yeah
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
Shoot out
Ay-yeah
