Song Meaning of Cracklin Rosie by Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond composed and recorded the song "Cracklin' Rosie" in 1970, with the assistance of session musicians from the Wrecking Crew in Los Angeles.

The lyrics suggested to some a devotion to a woman of the night. However, other stories have been put forward. Previously made by Andres Wines of British Columbia, Canada, "Crackling Rosé" was the name of a low-cost sparkling wine that was well-liked by the indigenous community.

According to one version of events, Diamond was inspired to compose the song by a tale he heard about a native Canadian tribe while conducting research for a Toronto, Canada, interview. Because the group had more males than women, the lonely men would gather around the fire and drink wine together.

The song became Diamond's third single to sell a million copies and his first American No. 1 smash on the Billboard Hot 100. It was his first number-one hit in the UK, where it spent four consecutive weeks at No. 3.

Cracklin Rosie lyrics by Neil Diamond

Aw, Cracklin' Rosie, get on board

We're gonna ride

Till there ain't no more to go

Taking it slow

And Lord, don't you know

We'll have me a time with a poor man's lady

Hitchin' on a twilight train

Ain't nothing here that I care to take along

Maybe a song

To sing when I want

No need to say please to no man

For a happy tune

Oh, I love my Rosie child

You got the way to make me happy

You and me we go in style

Cracklin' Rose,

You're a store-bought woman

But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'

So hang on to me, girl,

Our song keeps runnin' on

Play it now, play it now

Play it now, my baby

Cracklin' Rosie, make me a smile

Girl, if it lasts for an hour, that's all right

We got all night to set the world right

Find us a dream that don't ask no questions

Yeah

Oh, I love my Rosie child

You got the way to make me happy

You and me we go in style

Cracklin' Rose,

You're a store-bought woman

But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'

So hang on to me, girl

Our song keeps runnin' on

Play it now, play it now

Play it now, my baby

Cracklin' Rosie, make me a smile

Girl, if it lasts for an hour, that's all right

We got all night

To set the world right

Find us a dream that don't ask no questions

Ba ba ba ba ba ......
