Lyrics meaning of All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor
Trainor was motivated to write the song to encourage self-acceptance because she struggled with having a positive body image as a teen.
Because she thought she was "one of the chubby girls who would never be an artist," Meghan Trainor made the decision to write music for other artists.
Kevin Kadish, an American songwriter, and Trainor met in June 2013 at Carla Wallace's invitation. Carla Wallace is a co-owner of Big Yellow Dog. Trainor's voice appealed to Kadish, so she scheduled a writing session for the next month. He referred to it as "like a blind date" because of their strong songwriting kinship and shared appreciation of 1950s and 1960s pop music.
'It's about the bass, not the treble,' Trainor said, and she criticised the usage of digitally altered photographs in beauty magazines. Trainor sang the line "I'm all about that bass, 'bout the bass, no treble" to a drum rhythm produced by Kadish.
The song, which Kadish and Trainor wrote in 40 minutes, had elements of 1950s doo-wop, a genre Trainor considered catchy. Kadish finished the demo of "All About That Bass" two to three days after starting it, saying that he and Trainor each contributed equally to the lyrics and music.
Kadish sent Trainor a list of possible song titles, with "All Bass, No Treble" being her favourite. Trainor proposed that the lyrics be based on her own struggles with body image and self-acceptance as a teenager.
The song reached number one in 58 countries.
All About That Bass lyrics by Meghan Trainor
Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass... bass... bass... bass
Yeah, it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two
But I can shake it, shake it, like I'm supposed to do
'Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase
And all the right junk in all the right places
I see the magazine workin' that Photoshop
We know that shit ain't real, come on now, make it stop
If you got beauty, beauty, just raise 'em up
'Cause every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top
Yeah, my mama she told me "don't worry about your size"
(Shoo wop wop, sha-ooh wop wop)
She says, "Boys like a little more booty to hold at night"
(That booty, uh, that booty booty)
You know I won't be no stick figure silicone Barbie doll
(Shoo wop wop, sha-ooh wop wop)
So if that's what you're into, then go 'head and move along
Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass... Hey!
I'm bringing booty back
Go 'head and tell them skinny bitches that
No, I'm just playing, I know you think you're fat
But I'm here to tell you...
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top
Yeah my mama she told me, "don't worry about your size"
(Shoo wop wop, sha-ooh wop wop)
She says, "Boys like a little more booty to hold at night"
(That booty booty, uh, that booty booty)
You know I won't be no stick figure, silicone Barbie doll
So if that's what you're into, then go 'head and move along
Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass...
Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I said I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass...
Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass... Hey!
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass... Hey!
I'm all about that bass
Bout that bass...
Hey!
Yeah yeah... ohh... You know you like this bass... Hey...
