Song meaning of Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor, and what it is about

This exhilarating rock anthem, which debuted in 1982 as the theme song for the movie "Rocky III," never fails to enthrall audiences with its contagious energy and inspirational message. The song Eye Of The Tiger is sang and wrote by the band Survivor.

After Queen's song "Another One Bites the Dust" was refused by the band, Rocky III director and actor Sylvester Stallone turned to Survivor to write the tune. They created a riff with chord changes to mimic the punches in the movie's boxing sequences, and they took lines from the conversation, including the title.

"Eye of the Tiger" first appeared during a crucial juncture in Survivor's history. After their original lead singer left the group, the band was given the chance to write a song for the much awaited movie "Rocky III." Joining up with well-known songwriter Jim Peterik, Survivor took advantage of the occasion and focused all of their attention into producing a song that would become an enduring icon in popular culture.

Degree of tenacity and resolve exhibited by Rocky Balboa, the movie's main character. The song's lyrics highlight the human spirit's tenacity and exhort listeners to find inner strength to overcome obstacles in life.

"Eye of the Tiger" peaked at the top of several national charts. It was the second-best-selling song of 1982 in the US and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks. It also remained in the top ten for fifteen weeks running. In August 1982, it received a platinum certification for two million copies sold. "Eye of the Tiger" peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in a row,

"Eye of the Tiger" was nominated for Song of the Year and won Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal at the 25th Annual Grammy Awards. It received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 55th Academy Awards.

Lyrics of Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor

Rising up, back on the street

Did my time, took my chances

Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet

Just a man and his will to survive

So many times it happens too fast

You trade your passion for glory

Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past

You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger

It's the thrill of the fight

Rising up to the challenge of our rival

And the last known survivor

Stalks his prey in the night

And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat

Hanging tough, staying hungry

They stack the odds still we take to the street

For the kill with the skill to survive

It's the eye of the tiger

It's the thrill of the fight

Rising up to the challenge of our rival

And the last known survivor

Stalks his prey in the night

And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Rising up, straight to the top

Had the guts, got the glory

Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop

Just a man and his will to survive

It's the eye of the tiger

It's the thrill of the fight

Rising up to the challenge of our rival

And the last known survivor

Stalks his prey in the night

And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger
