Canadian rock group Nickelback was founded in Hanna, Alberta, in 1995. Bassist Mike Kroeger, drummer Daniel Adair, rhythm guitarist/keyboardist/backing vocalist Ryan Peake, and lead guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger make up the group. Between 1995 and 2005, the drummer was replaced multiple times.

After the band signed with Roadrunner Records in 1999, their breakthrough single "How You Remind Me" hit number one in both the US and Canada in 2002, giving them a mainstream breakthrough. In Canada, its parent album Silver Side Up was certified 8× Platinum.
