Louis Daniel Armstrong was an American trumpeter and singer who lived from 1901 until 1971. He was one of the jazz world's most important figures.

His career spanned multiple jazz eras as well as five decades. Armstrong won multiple awards, such as the 1965 Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance for Hello, Dolly!, the 1972 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which he won posthumously, and the 2017 entry into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.
