Tupac Amaru Shakur born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rapper and songwriter.

Scholars view him as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, a politically conscious activist voice for Black America, and as one of the most successful and influential rappers of all time.

Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians. In addition to being associated with violent rap lyrics, his lyrics have been recognised for tackling social injustice, political issues, and the marginalisation of African-Americans.
